Psoriasis is a prolonged disorder of the skin which results in hyper proliferation of the skin. It is a chronic skin disease characterized by dry skin and raised, rough, red areas on the skin covered with fine silvery scales. Psoriasis is non-infectious and it is often seen in people between 15 to 40 yrs of age.

Psoriasis Causes and Symptoms:

The development consists of a chronic inflammatory process in the true skin, the papillae of which become significantly lengthened and more vascular than usual. Changes in the cuticle also affect the epidermis. It is often a family disease occurring in different generations of one stock, and is often connected with gout or rheumatism. In some persons, psoriasis reiterates at a particular season, especially in the spring and autumn.

Psoriasis is caused by vitiation of Vata and Kapha Dosha. The vitiated Doshas affect the skin and blood tissues. They also influence water element of the affected region on the skin. Thus the skin which is influenced by affected Doshas becomes discolored (white or copper colored), scaly and thin.

A strict diet regime has to be followed during the entire treatment period and it is better to continue as vegetarian. Yogurt, black gram, chilies and salted things have to be restricted. It is better to avoid refrigerated/chilled foods. Psoriatic must keep a state of mental calmness.
