In men, these include environmental and hormonal factors that affect the production of healthy, motile sperm and normal semen, as well as blockages that affect the delivery of sperm. In women, the causes are more varied since she plays a greater role in reproduction.

First, one of the organs involved in reproduction may be absent, mal-formed or non-functional. Second, the organs may be normal, but the complex hormonal feedback system that is necessary to support follicular development, ovulation and implantation of the fertilized egg may be disrupted.

Some of the Male Infertility Causes are:

  • Sperm related Problems
  • Insufficient Quantity of Sperm Count
  • less mobility of sperms
  • Semen comes out from vagina after intercourse
  • Semen with pus cells and Blood cells
  • irregular liquification time for semen
  • Impotency

In order to diagnose fertility related problem in women, the first step in testing is to find out if she is ovulating each month. Doctors can also check if a woman is ovulating by doing Blood Tests and an Ultrasound of the ovaries.

In Ayurveda, Infertility is compared with VANDHYATWA. According to Ayurvedic texts, the general causes of sterility or infertility are: Constituents of Garbha (Zygote/embryo/fetus); Rutu (Season/fertile period), Kshetra (Healthy Yoni, uterus and Passage, reproductive organs), Ambu (proper nutrient fluid, clarity of Hrudaya or psychology, properly functioning Vayu (normal Nervous System) and Sadbhavas (Mother, Father, Atma, Satwa, Satmya and Rasa). Abnormality in any one of these can cause infertility.

Coitus with a woman who is very young, old; constantly ill, hungry and afflicted with other psychological abnormalities or in humpback or lateral posture is futile; semen falling over Sameerana Nadi or in outer part of Yoni also fails to impregnate the woman.
