After delivery the mother and baby are taken through proper massages with Medicated oils, herbal drinks, medicines for proper lactation, getting back the physical fitness one had, most importantly stay fit.
Just as the mental and physical well-being of a mother is important, so also is post-natal care.
Ayurveda says that a mother’s Agni is at low ebb and Vata is vitiated immediately after delivery.
During the initial ten days after delivery, exertion should be kept to the minimum, a light diet eaten and Agni should be stimulated with Ghee and dried ginger.
The Vata is calmed by oil massages which prevent aches and pains that may beset a woman after delivery.
Back pain is a major complaint that lasts for quite some time in women who do not take massages.
Exposure to cold is to be avoided by maintaining the room warm and cozy, as well as providing a happy environment, since these go a long way in keeping the child and the mother happy.
